ICE stresses importance of relationship between education, employment

Rabat - The North Africa Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) of Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) highlighted, on Saturday, the relationship between education and employment in social and economic development    Held on May 6-9 in Rabat on "Education and reinforcing capacities for job creation" in North Africa, ICE deemed it necessary to encourage long-term research in the field of education and training to meet the needs of the economy.     ICE also stressed the importance of research in development and the creation of knowledge as well as the necessity to continue to address this sector even in times of crisis.    Participants at the ICE meeting also called for reinforcing the partnership with the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) and preparing a cooperation program for 2010-2011.     Within the framework of the ICE meetings, Labor Minister, Jamal Rhmani said reinforcing capacities in the field of education and training is a key factor to face the impacts of the current international economic crisis.   In order to face the effects of the international credit crunch, it is important to set up "a common alarm system" to prevent these crises and efficiently manage their fallouts, Rhmani said.   He noted that such a common system requires speeding up the integration pace of the regions countries, underlining the importance of cooperation among economic partners in the region.    ICE, the executive body of the ECA, is made up of representatives of seven countries, namely Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Sudan, Algeria, and Tunisia.
